Natural Bridges National Park, Utah
September 30, 2009
This place is really beautiful, but it's such a touristed national park that it is a bit weird, too. You drive around a loop, pull over at the pullouts, and walk a short trail to an overlook with a guardrail. Takes the "natural" out of Natural Bridges.
But with all that, the geologic formations are amazing. Not just the bridges, but the shapes of the canyons, where the layers have eroded. Quite astonishing; natural shelves and benches in the canyon walls caused by different erosion rates.
The third bridge around the driving loop, Owachomo, has a nice, easy trail that drops into the canyon. We took the boys down there, and got a spectacular view of the bridge, and a easy walk near the base of the canyon.
